Charizard

Suspended eyes anxiously survey the room. Anonymous figures struggle to pull themselves together. Unflickering flames burn with ossified piety. And demons profess their ethical purity.

Any Other Business was a solo exhibition of embroidery, print, video and sculpture, taking place at the artist-led gallery Gasleak Mountain. This exhibition brought together several strands of our material practice, which reflect an ongoing interest in the tensions and anxieties of holding public office.

At the centre of the exhibition were The Stewards, a series of embroidered portraits of figures who hold institutional office (in various organisations that the exhibition depended upon), suspended from the ceiling.

Any Other Business was our second solo exhibition. Each of the seven works had been developed through different enquiries and contexts, but together they formed a precise constellation. Delicious.

Exhibition: October 2023, Gasleak Mountain, Nottingham, October 2023. We opened the show on Friday 13th October, with a performance of Self Possessed.

Early versions of the work were presented at Bidston Observatory (Liverpool, August 2022) and ICA (London, June 2023).
