Letters of Resignation (2021)

“It was a massive and meaningful journey being part of Letters of Resignation”
“Beautifully and generously hosted”

Letters of Resignation was a postal choreography course, running from February to June 2021.

We were invited by Siobhan Davies Studios to lead their annual course introducing the public to choreographic thinking. Rather than ‘introduction’ – in the face of mass economic devastation due to Covid-19 – we felt it was more appropriate to reflect on exit, expansion, or retreat.

Taking the form of a postal correspondence course, Letters of Resignation invited participants to rethink their relationship to work, ambition and artistic practice. At the core of the course were five letters commissioned from guest contributors – each of whom had found different ways to develop and sustain their practices beyond the fields of art and performance.

At the end of the course, we collectively produced a digital zine – composed of materials from the participants and guest artists from across the course.

Letters of Resignation was designed and hosted by our collaborative practice, yet had the unique situation of Rohanne simultaneously holding a role within the organisation as Content and Communications Manager. As such, this project ended up being a bit of an experiment in how commissioning organisations can devolve curatorial power to freelance artists acting with relative administrative autonomy.

Workshop series at: Siobhan Davies Studios, February to June 2021.

With invited materials from Salome Wagaine, Harry Josephine Giles, Rukeya, My Dads Strip Club, Eimhin Daly. Funded through the Cultural Recovery Fund and TECHNE studentship fund.
